Anamul suffered a shoulder injury during his side’s six wickets victory over Scotland in Nelson on Thursday and has been ruled out of the tournament.
The 28-year-old Imrul has played 53 ODIs in which he has scored 1,390 runs at just under 27 with one century and 10 half-centuries. His last ODI for Bangladesh was against Zimbabwe in November 2014.
Any injury or illness-based replacement requires a written submission to the Event Technical Committee along with a diagnosis from a medical practitioner as to the extent of the injury or illness. Once replaced, a player may not return to the squad save as an approved subsequent replacement for another injured or ill player.

Bangladesh is in Pool A of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 along with co-hosts Australia and New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka and qualifiers Afghanistan and Scotland. Bangladesh is currently sitting on five points from four matches and will play England in its fifth pool match in Adelaide on Monday, 9 March.
